Just Add Crib...& Baby

Its nearly complete.  We're just waiting for the crib to arrive ... and the baby. :) While I haven't seen anything exactly like our nursery, I did take some inspiration from some of the rooms on the DesignDazzle blog.  If you're looking for decorating ideas for your kid spaces, definitely check out this blog!

Nursery Makeover

We built our home in 2003 and for the most part, the rooms have remained "builder white" or ecru or what ever color it is that they spray paint the inside of new construction.  Generally, it takes some inspiration (followed by perspiration) for me to be motivated into design and actual decoration of a room.  One of the beauties of photographing high-end homes for a living is the inspiration that comes from the design and decoration of many custom homes.  The inspiration for the nursery came in part from my exposure to these homes.  I also surfed the web for ideas.  The colors ultimately came from the bedding that I chose. Here is the room that we started with.  It is approximately 12x10 in size with a large bank of windows on one wall and a large closet opposite the windows.  We know we're having a girl, so the nursery had to be feminine, but not something that would need redecorating as soon as she's not an infant.  I think we succeeded in crea...

Nesting Instinct?

I'm not sure if its a nesting instinct or what, but my need to organize spilled over into the loft yesterday.  After getting about 80% complete with the two bedrooms (with decluttering and purging), I decided that I didn't like where my desk was sitting in the loft.  Hmmm...starting a project with two others still  incomplete...where else does that show up in my life?  No time for self analysis right now! The desk (a large oak roll top) had been sitting in the same place for 8 years -- since we moved in the house.  On the surface, it was just a move of about 10 feet.  Moving the desk, however was a HUGE project.  I think Dave was happy to not cleaning a closet anymore, so he contributed to the desk moving project.  It now nearly 18 hours later and we're finally getting to the point where we can walk across the loft.  Its by no means complete though.  Something tells me we should have painted this wall in the loft before moving the desk...

30 Weeks And Counting

Hard to believe that there are just 10 short weeks left in my pregnancy.  I've been really lucky so far that everything is progressing well.  Aside from some moderate issues in getting comfortable at night (multiple pillows are a MUST), I really haven't had any negative side effects.  The few times I have had heartburn, I've taken Ultimate Aloe , which quickly nullified it.  Other than that, just healthy eating seems to do the trick. By the way, here is a picture of our wee one.  This was about a month ago.  Based on the movements I'm feeling, she is planning to pursue a career in kickboxing. In true Latka fashion, now that we're a bit less than 10 weeks out, we're finally getting around to prepping the rooms.  Yes, I said roomS.  Both the nursery and the new guest room (which was kind of a storage room), are getting cleaned out today.  In fact, I'm taking a bit of a break from doing that to write this post.  Its somewhat amazing t...

Due Date

Well...its more than just a movie.  Due Date is a real date in our lives now.  That's right.  We're expecting! :)  I am officially 19 weeks and its just pretty crazy to think that this time next year, there will be another member of the Latka clan. I apologize again for not updating the blog for a long time, but this was something that we didn't want to share online until the time was right.  February was a great month.  I did work out at HIP Fitness 3-4/week.  I loved it!  I was really tired by the end of the month and we learned then that I was pregnant.  Then came first weekend for Sam Camp 21 in Phoenix.  It was amazing.  Unfortunately, a very nasty flu bug was floating around and I was stricken with it, which made much of March a blur for me.  Thankfully, that passed and I am back!! I must say that life has a new awareness and a new meaning to me now that I know there is another life on the way.  Its exciting in w...

Time for a Change

I must be getting older...or fatter?  For the first time in a long time, I'm actually really excited about working out every day.  I am looking at HIP Fitness , a local group fitness gym that is just a few miles from my house.  They have 45 min classes every morning at 6AM and membership is just $30/month with no contract. This could be just what I need to get up and workout!

Winter Blahs

Well, 2011 is here.  Can't believe it.  I'm working on a bunch of projects right now. Trying to stay warm too.  Today is bright and sunny, but just 4 degree outside.  Brrrr! Here is a short list of my current projects: - 35 Photo Shoot Challenge - Master Bathroom restoration - Guest Room redecoration - One retraining project (16 year old TB gelding) - Volunteering with Klemmer & Associates for Sam Camp 21 as a Team Leader - real estate photography, which is starting to pick up again. Those right there are enough to keep pretty much anybody busy! What are you doing with your life right now?  Do share!
